If you haven’t already discovered the benefits of having a Facebook page for your dealership or brand, its never too late. Here is a simple guide to starting a Facebook page.

Firstly, you will need to login to Facebook. You can use your personal Facebook login to do this. Once logged in, go to the following web address: www.facebook.com/pages/create

You could also go to the dropdown menu furthest to the right, and then select ‘create page’. Both ways will bring you to the same page which should look something like the below image.

How to Setup A Facebook Page 1

Here you will have 6 options:

  1. Local Business or Place
  2. Company, Organisation or Institution
  3. Brand or Product
  4. Artist, Band or Public Figure
  5. Entertainment
  6. Cause of Community

For a dealership, choose Local Business or Place. This will allow you to set an address and access maps and review sections.

Once you select this, follow the prompts to enter in your dealership’s business details and contact information.

It will then ask you to add a profile image. We like to create an image 360×360 pixels in size. Most manufacturer’s will have a guide to their branding guidelines for social media. Be sure to stick to this, as well as making your brand profile recognisable. We usually recommend the brands logo, and the business name or location below it. See example below….

How to Setup A Facebook Page 2

We use Adobe Photoshop to create our images, but there are other options out there. Make sure your images are professional and clear. While you are making your profile image, think about creating your cover image as well. Facebook recommends a 828x315px image. Keep in mind the viewable area on a mobile phone layout is 530x315px, so keep the content centered where possible.

Many manufacturer’s supply their national campaign materials including images for social media pages. Whilst it can be easy to use these as per the example above, by creating your own version, you can personalise/localise the campaign a bit to suit your dealership and it’s points of difference. If doing this, make sure you still to branding guidelines in terms of fonts and colours.

Next up, click ‘About’ in the left side menu. Here you can change or add your contact details including phone and email addresses, map location and website. There are also areas to provide an ‘about us’ short description and story. Be sure to use this to address your dealership’s points of difference like award winning staff, local hero, etc.

You can also customise your username. This will change the address people see when they visit your page. Make it something relevant yet simple. Your Facebook page address will then use the username like this: www.facebook.com/yourusername

Next up, click on ‘Settings’ at the top of the page. We recommend working your way through each section of the settings. Be sure to check the privacy settings of the page as well as checking who you want to be able to post to the page. If you need to add other page admins, got to Page Roles and add them in here. If you are friends on Facebook personally, you can start typing in their name here. If not, use their email address that is associated with their Facebook account.

Once you have finished there, hit ‘page’ up the top to return to the main page. In the space of the cover image/top banner, you will notice an option to add a call to action button. This gives page visitors a way to message, call, sign up, and more. Once you click on Add A Button, you will be promoted to choose from seven types of buttons.

With Facebook Messenger becoming a popular way for users to connect with pages, we recommend setting the button to ‘Send Message’. You can always change this later.

With Messaging settings, you can also switch on an auto-response feature. These are personalised messages that automatically respond when someone contacts the page via Messenger.

You can use this to let the user know you received their message and will get back to them shortly, or to let them know you are out at this time and will get back to them soon, or perhaps just thank them for contacting the page.

Look out for our article on using Messenger Bots to do more with you auto responses on Facebook Messenger.

Your Facebook page is accessible on mobile devices too. Download the ‘Pages Manager’ app by Facebook from either the iOS App Store or the Android Play Store. Once you login with your personal Facebook login it will allow access to your pages.

Use this app to do LIVE videos, reply to notifications and more. By having it mobile accessible, it also allows you to manage the page even after hours without the need to be in front of a computer or in the office.
